They need filtered sunlight or full sun for a half day and good air movement. Ample light is important for flowering. Foliage will be slightly yellow-green, not dark green. Night temperatures between 45-50 degrees F are necessary during fall and winter to initiate bloom. Day temperatures should be 20-30 degrees F higher. Select a container that allows two years of growing room (1-2" of free space around bulbs). Spread the white healthy roots into the container and fill with orchid medium, tamping it down firmly enough to hold the plant erect. Watering and Fertilizing: Oncidium orchids should be allowed to dry out between waterings. When they are actively growing or in bloom, give more water. Repotting: Paphiopedilum Orchids should be repotted at least every two years using a fine grade fir bark or fine rock medium. They prefer to be somewhat crowded in the pot. Phalaenopsis Orchid CareLight and Temperature: 1000 foot candles bright filtered light with no direct sun. Leaves should be glossy medium green and should increase in size with each new leaf. Old bottom leaves turning brown and falling off is normal. Maintain a warm environment with good air movement, temperatures between 75-95 degrees F days. A 15-20 degree day to night differential is required for flowering. Bloom spike initiation can be encouraged by night temperatures in the low 50 degrees and using a bloom formula such as Dyna-Gro BLOOM.
